Henry Manning

candidate Statement

Hi comrades! I’m Henry Manning (he/him), and I’m running to represent Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky DSA as a delegate to the 2025 National Convention.

I joined the chapter in 2024, and I am currently serving as one of two at-larges on the chapter’s steering committee. In that role, I have spent most of my effort on new member organizing by building an improved process to engage new members with proactive one-on-ones and to channel them into our chapter’s ongoing organizing efforts. Since January, that has meant working to connect more than one hundred new members with an excellent group of new member organizers. Along with that effort, I have been working to increase our capacity to work across the state by organizing conversations between chapters and getting multiple to pass motions to investigate a statewide formation, like the one we passed at our April meeting.

I believe that DSA is the best vehicle for advancing socialism in the United States, and that in order to succeed we must build DSA into a mass political party that can shape national politics on the level of the next presidential election, coordinate unions across the country for a general strike, and seize the moment for the next major political rupture. DSA must be a party that anyone can easily hear about, understand, join, support, and learn to organize in.

To make that possible, I will support the One Member One Vote resolutions to place federal endorsements and the National Political Committee (NPC) election in the hands of all members. When we elect political leadership, every single member of our organization should be a part of the debate and deliberation to create a body with a true democratic mandate for leadership. When we make important political decisions to endorse candidates for federal office who will represent every DSA member, every one of those members should be engaged in the process.

We must also change DSA into an organization more capable of coordinating between DSA chapters across the country and the YDSA chapters near them. Most of the real work that happens right now is limited in scope to a single chapter working out of sync with the rest of the body of DSA, diminishing the greatest strength of the working class, which is its ability to act collectively. I will vote for the 50 State Strategy resolution to encourage the formation of more statewide organizations that will build collaboration between chapters, connecting members and campaigns.

I’m proud to be running as part of the Groundwork DSA for All slate, and I hope you’ll consider voting for me and the rest of our slate: Olivia Merrill, Sarah Callahan, Katy Eales, Bill Williams, and Jack Cunningham. If you have questions or want to talk about how I plan to vote at the convention, feel free to DM me on Discord or text me at 513-808-7179. I’d love to connect!

Always in solidarity,
Henry Manning
